“May all your dreams come true, and may you have the courage to chase after them.” – Unknown
“Don’t give up on your dreams, or your dreams will give up on you.” – John Wooden.
And so, we find ourselves in December, in the final throes of 2023 with 2024 fast approaching, and with the business of the season festivities already in full swing with decorations all around and Christmas music playing at all the malls. It is almost time to say our final goodbye to 2023, and to embrace all the exciting possibilities that lie ahead in the coming months of 2024. The holiday season is often a time that provides us with the opportunity to reconnect with people who we may have lost contact with, to re-establish ties with old friends and people who may have played an important role in your life, and to reflect and remind one another of the beautiful and sometimes poignant memories and experiences shared together in living life.
For many, December signifies the start of a season of festivity, one that culminates in the the arrival of the New Year and resolutions made to make changes in our lives for the good. Celebrated by communities across the world, each with their own deep-rooted traditions, and unique way of celebrating this time of year with their different and diverse customs, it ushers in a season of thankfulness and celebration as we reflect upon and consider the many blessings received during the year, all of which transforms this month into a time of great festivity and joyful celebration for family and friends.
December may also be a time to plan for the new year approaching so that we are prepared and ready to meet whatever comes our way. Sometimes things don’t work out as we planned and despite our best efforts and all we can do is make the most of the circumstances and just do the best one can. This is a perfect time to leave behind the disappointments and challenges of 2023 and to press ahead with finding new plans and new possibilities for the year ahead, while welcoming what these new beginnings and fresh starts will bring our way in 2024.
New beginnings usually always provide a source of growth and a place of nurture in our lives while allowing a transformation in our view of the world around us as we are forced out of our comfort zones. So let us rather put aside any worries and concerns we may have for another month, and rather enjoy this December festive season, and use the opportunity to find some rest and restoration to our souls rather than worrying about the challenges and issues we faced in 2023 and those that undoubtably lie ahead.
We can only hope that with the looming government elections for 2024, we may see a greater commitment from all representatives of the various political parties and especially those that currently wield control of the purse strings, to bring about positive changes to our municipalities and to our communities for the betterment of all. My prayer is that they use this unique opportunity to set an example of what true leadership is, in finding inventive and sustainable ways that will ensure an improvement in the quantum and quality of services delivered to the people who live in their respective areas that they govern.
May this December provide us with the opportunity to be reflective, humble, and grateful for the many blessings in our lives and may this last month of the year be the portend for 2024, and bring you all a season of peace, joy, and happiness. Keep Safe, stay strong, and be grateful for all you have, and may you all enjoy a Happy Christmas and wishing all a prosperous New Year!!
